New Terminal Program Contributes $2.1 Billion

SACRAMENTO, June 2008 – Sacramento County Airport System contributes $3.2 billion per year to the region’s economy, according to an Economic Impact Analysis conducted by Bay Area Economics (BAE).

The analysis examined airport operations and visitor spending associated with Sacramento International, Mather and Executive Airports to reach the following conclusions. The County Airport System’s annual economic impact is up from $2.4 billion in 2002, a $1.2 billion increase. Annually, the County Airport System contributes 27,500 direct, indirect and induced jobs and $1 billion in total labor income to the local economy.

BAE also found that the Terminal Modernization Program (TMP) at Sacramento International Airport will have a positive effect on the region’s economy. Over a seven year period beginning in 2007, TMP construction includes enabling projects, building the new Central Terminal B, infrastructure, paving and utilities, and a new parking garage. Total economic impact for the TMP is estimated at $2.1 billion, and includes 2400 direct, indirect and induced jobs.

“We are proud to help drive the economy of the Sacramento region,” said Director of Airports G. Hardy Acree. “The Terminal Modernization Program is already providing jobs for our region and will be a positive economic engine for decades to come.”

Sacramento County Airport System is responsible for planning, developing, operating and maintaining four of the county’s airports: Sacramento International Airport, Executive Airport, Mather Airport and Franklin Field. For more information on the system, visit www.sacairports.org.
