Pile Driving Heralds Big Build Progress at Sacramento International Airport
Drivers Urged to Exercise Caution, Prepare for Minor Delays
Public Provided Ear Plugs to Dull the Din
WHEN:
ALERT – Event postponed until Wednesday, April 1 due to wind
7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Please bring your parking ticket for validation. Ear protection is available in each terminal, on board shuttle busses and in the administration building.
Pile driving will occur as follows:
March 31 - April 3: center island across from the International Building
April 20 – May 8: in and around the former hourly B parking lot
June 4 – 10: on the sidewalk in front of the International Building
June 10 – July 13: airside; behind the International Building
WHAT:
Experience the sights and sounds of the first phase of pile driving in front of the International Building that mark a new phase in the Big Build.
Pile driving for each bent (support) for the overhead people mover will take approximately 3 days. This first bent will require 25 piles.
The entire concourse and automated people mover foundation will require 850 piles.
VISUALS:
75-foot concrete piles will be hoisted into position and driven into the ground.
Lane closures of three to five minutes will occur while the pile is hoisted into position. This process will occur eight times a day.
